As the parent of neurodivergent children myself, I understand that getting an answer to this question - is my child autistic or not - needs to be handled sensitively. As a psychologist, I see autism as a difference, not a disability. But some features can be disabling and these need to be acknowledged and supported with expert, individualised, strengths-based care!
The assessment process will start by getting details about your concerns, and I then use the ADOS (a play-based assessment tool) and a variety of questionnaires to build a profile of your child’s individual strengths and needs. This information will be compiled into a report that can be used to support your NDIS journey and beyond. I will also compile a neurodivergence- affirming report that honours your child’s unique and individual ways of interacting with the world.
